The start of a journey | Helena Family and Children Photographer

Location: Joe Tucker Park

My friend, Beth and her son, T, lost a husband and father in early 2010. Instead of crawling in a hole of self-pity, Beth put on her boots, got on her knees, and with God's strength, is moving on. There are still rough days ahead, but God is especially near to the brokenhearted (Psalm 34:18), and she can lean on that.

T has really stepped up as the man of the house. At Upward games, when other men were helping their wives to gather their chairs after a game, T insisted on carrying Beth's chair. God is certainly strengthening him as well - helping him to take care of her.

Early this year, Beth went on a Ladies retreat with our Church that I was also on. As usual, I wore my camera around my neck like a necklace taking pictures of everything and everyone. When we all returned home, I posted some on Facebook and tagged her in a handful of them. She emailed me asking me to remove them - that she wasn't comfortable with the way she looked - that she need to drop some weight. I had been in a study on David and God immediately brought to mind some scripture that I felt she needed to be reminded of:

But the LORD said to Samuel, “Do not consider his appearance or his height, for I have rejected him. The LORD does not look at the things people look at. People look at the outward appearance, but the LORD looks at the heart.” - 1 Samuel 16:7

I love how God used her trials over the past year and reminded her of the definition of beauty to launch her desire to begin a healthier lifestyle. To help document her journey, I have the honor of taking her photos as she drops some serious poundage! Whoot!

Here is the first installment:
